ART and MUSIC by

John Clancy

Usually, before I create a work of art, I will make many small layouts of various compositions and color studies. These small studies may be no larger than 3” x 4”. This is where I set the stage and determine the mood of the piece. By doing these quick small studies I can tell right away if the painting is going to work or not. Next, I will do detailed drawings of the different elements to be used in the final painting.

Here are a few of the detailed drawings I have made with some of the subject matter I like to paint. You will notice that some of the drawings contain my reference notes.

I have made a limited edition run of some of the pieces in this collection which have been numbered and signed
.
